I’ve waited to see if the bad taste would subside, but like vomit in the nasal passage it’s just going to take some time to get this horrible taste out of my mouth. I’m thinking maybe a season or two.
Let’s state the obvious, if Josh Freeman pans out and turns out to be the next the Ben Roethlisberger then the draft is a huge success, but Josh Freeman wasn’t as good a prospect as Big Ben was and he’s not going to as good an organization or team. Freeman is at best a project and will take a few years to develop. The Bucs could have easily picked a QB project in a later round and spent the first pick on some defensive needs. Next year after finishing 3-13 they could probably have the top QB prospect in the league, which could be Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford. Instead we have a posse of QB’s and we really aren’t sure about any of them.
The rest of the draft was interesting too.
3rd Round, 81st pick was DT Roy Miller. The kid flies around the field and has a motor. The Bucs needed some youth and energy, so we’ll see if he can develop.
4th Round, 117th pick was Kyle Moore. At 6′6″ he’s a big boy and should fill out a bit more. Playing at USC you have to wonder if he got lost in the shuffle with all the talent around him or did he stand out at times, because of other key players. USC only recruits the best, so I’m hopeful he can develop too.
5th Round, 155th pick was Xavier Fulton. Another big one, 6′6″ and 300 lbs. The Bucs offensive line is in good shape, so he should be given the time to develop his technique and hopefully be able to protect Freeman, if all things work out nicely.
7th Round, 217th pick was E.J. Biggers. A small cornerback in a division with big receivers. I hope this guy is football fast and has some hops, but I’m not holding my breath.
The last pick was in the 7th and was the 233rd pick. The Bucs selected WR Sammie Stroughter. If he makes the team, it will only be a special teams return man, but his top speed isn’t that great and he’s only 5′9″.
