Gear Up For Buccaneers Football

Buccaneers Football Can’t Start Soon Enough

June 29th, 2009 at 8:37 am

This is the time of year when I start going a bit stir crazy. I don’t profess to be a huge MLB fan and with the NBA and NHL seasons over I get desperate for any news related to the NFL. I guess you can say I’m jonesing for the NFL to start and lately I’ve had to settle for some other lesser sports:

The Confed Cup entertained me for about 57 minutes, which is the other football. I didn’t think there was shit on TV, but I was wrong. Kaka was leading Brazil on a relentless second half come back against the US. I didn’t catch the first half, but like fat kids on chocolate cake Brazil was all over us and ending up beating us 3 to 2. Apparently the US had no business being in the finals in the first place, so we were on the verge of a major international upset. I wonder if the US had won, would the Brazilian team have been allowed to go home? Apparently my buddy, Brian, lives next door to some Brazilians and there was a lot of people screaming in Portuguese during the match. The screaming was so loud it drowned out his neighbor’s talking parrot and his other neighbor’s kennel. South America takes their football serious, one time a Colombian kicked a goal in on his own team during the World Cup, dude came back and some Columbians killed him. Bill Buckner got off easy.

The NBA draft kept me going for a few days. Some big names made some big moves, so I’m already curious for the season to start.

Wimbledon is going on, but of all the big tennis tournaments Wimbledon is too prissy for me. It’s in England and although I like English blokes, because of their personalities and beer drinking abilities, it’s just too proper for me. Wimbledon is played at the All English Club and it’s the Gentleman’s and Ladies’ draws. Why can’t we just say men’s and women’s brackets? England’s all grass tennis tournament blows just like its food, but I’m desperate so I watch. I’d also eat the food in a pinch too.

I did get sucked into ESPN’s Classic Ringside fights. They were replaying Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson’s fights. AE Sports was promoting their new Fight Night Round 4, which gives you the chance to put Ali vs. Tyson. The big question was who would win if they both fought each other in their respective primes. If they fought 10 times, I’d say Ali wins 7 times. I think his jab, reach, foot work and ability to take a punch cancels out Tyson’s power and quickness, but that would have been one for the ages. I’m always amazed when I watch old Tyson fights how scared his oppenents were, they almost looked they were going to piss themselves right there in the ring.

NFL: MAY 21 Buccaneers OTA

Unfortunately, for Bucs fans, not much is going on. The new regime has taken over and the youth movement is in full swing. The biggest question around the camp is whether Josh Freeman is going to start. I think everyone is the camp is hoping he doesn’t have to start and they’d love to see Leftwich or McCown earn it, so Freeman can has a season to learn the system and work on his fundamentals. It might not matter anyways, because so far Freeman hasn’t signed a deal and when rookie QB’s hold out that usaully doesn’t bold well for them in their first year. Roy Miller and C.J. Byrd are the only other draft picks not to be signed yet, which isn’t too bad. Hopefully all the players will be signed soon.

Time to go surf and see if there are any cage fights going on.
