The short answer is no, but I think it’s going to be one of Bucs’ better chances this season. I might have been more inclined to think the Bucs would win if the Redskins had beaten the Detroit Lions last week, but the Redskins lost and that changes things.
Losing to the Lions and snapping their 19 game losing streak could not have been worse timing for the Bucs, because Head Coach Jim Zorn is on the hot seat and if he follows up a loss to the the lowly Bucs this Sunday it will probably cost him his job sooner rather than later. To say the least, Jim Zorn will be like Felix the Cat and pull everything out of his bag of coaching tricks to make a win happen. Many bad things happened on Sunday like a rookie QB driving 99 yards and scoring a TD, getting stopped on 4th and goal and most importantly being the footnote as the team that popped winless cherry for the Lions.
The Redskins have a few things going for them besides motivation. The Bucs have benched Byron Leftwich and will start 2nd year QB Josh Johnson. Johnson gives the Bucs some mobility, but it’s his first career start, so he’s green, young and inexperienced. He’s only played in 2 games, completed 4 out of 10 passes for a grand total of 36 yards. He does average 15 yards when he has to scramble, but he’s also only run the ball one time.
The betting line opened at Redskins -8.5, but fans have drove it down to -7, so it looks like most people are putting their money on the Bucs.
I’ll get into the match ups in another post, but in a nutshell they are not favorable for the Bucs.
