Giants vs Bucs: Derrick Ward vs Former Team

Derrick Ward left the NY Giants and signed a 4 year $17 million contract with the Buccaneers.  This Sunday is a bit of a homecoming for Derrick Ward as his old team comes to Tampa. Apparently Ward has been talking some trash to his former mates letting them know he’s going to run all over them.

I get it. Ward may not be saying it but, I’m sure he wants to rack up as many yards as he possibly can on Sunday. Ward will get his opportunity too, because although Cadillac Williams is listed as questionable, it’s looking more and more like he’s not going to play on his tweaked knee. The Cadillac will probably stay in the garage this Sunday. This puts the running game squarely on the shoulders of Ward. I like what I’ve seen so far out of Ward this season and I have zero doubt he’ll run hard and leave it all on the field, but I do question how productive he’ll be with that offensive line and having to run against one of the better defenses in the NFL.

There wasn’t any bad blood between Ward and the Giants, the Giants opted to sign Brandon Jacobs to a 4 year $25 million deal and they obviously felt comfortable with the development of Ahmad Bradshaw. I don’t blame the Giants, because Jacobs is a beast. He stands at 6′ 4″ and he’s “listed” at 264 pounds, back in the not so distant past NFL guards were that big. The last running back I remember that was that big and good was former Kansas City Chiefs running back; Christian Okoye or better known at The Nigerian Nightmare.

I still think it’s going to be a blow out, but if Ward gets hot and is able to move the sticks, you never know, because anything can happen on any given Sunday.
