The Bucs finally had enough of the underachieving 4th overall pick in the 2007 draft and traded Gaines Adams to the Chicago Bears for a 2nd round pick in the 2010 draft. It’s too bad, because you could see signs that the kid could play, but his inconsistency was too much. The fact that the Bucs aren’t a very talented on defense didn’t help matters either. Gaines Adams will definitely benefit from a change of scenery. He will also benefit by going to a team like the Bears were there is an established defense and the focus is clearly on big names like Cutler, Hester and Forte.
I can say this much it wasn’t the worst pick in the 2007 draft, because that clearly belongs to the Oakland Raiders with 1st overall pick of JaMarcus Russell. You gotta love Al Davis.
Other notable players that the Buc could have had with the 4th pick:
Adrian Peterson was taken 3 picks later at #7 and it’s safe to say he’s not only the best in player in that entire draft, but maybe one of the best to play in a very long time.
Patrick Willis was taken by the 49ers with the 11th overall pick. Image if Derrick Brooks could have mentored him and what he’d be doing for the Bucs defense right now.
