Patriots vs Bucs: The Only Upset Was My Stomach

October 25th, 2009 at 4:51 pm

Josh Johnson’s performance was horrible and it’s too bad because the Bucs did some good things on defense,  but that kid simply killed the Bucs with his 3 interceptions. I never argue with scoreboard and the Patriots took advantage of everything Johnson gave them, but if we had a decent QB like say Jeff Garcia, the Bucs would be in that game. Johnson has managed to throw 7 interceptions over the last 3 games and it’s not like the Bucs don’t have talent at the skill positions or decent offensive line, unfortunately Johnson can’t read defenses, doesn’t set his feet and takes too long to make a play. It was so bad that the Josh Johnson experiment seems to be over and now it’s on to the Josh Freeman experiment, which might turn even worse.
New England Patriots v Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Josh Freeman received his first taste of the NFL and the trivia will go down like this, “Name a QB that that played his first set of NFL downs during a home game that wasn’t played at home?”  Answer: Josh Freeman, London, England. Freeman obviously wasn’t prepared, because his 1st 4 plays went terribly:

3 yard pass to Kellen Winslow

Freeman run for 5 yards

Incomplete pass

Sacked, fumbled, turnover on downs

Why did Raheem Morris even put him in? It’s a bye next week and it would have given him a chance to prepare, script out some plays, maybe even have a motivated team out there with him. Instead Raheem throws in the shark infested waters and that was the kid’s first NFL experience.

It’s only week 7 and here’s the Raheem plan so far:

Fire offensive coordinator prior to NFL season starting.

Bench Byron Leftwich.

Start 2nd year QB Josh Johnson.

Trade Gaines Adams.

Bench Josh Johnson.

Put Josh Freeman in at the end of a meaningless, lopsided ass kicking with 1:50 left in the game.

The sad part is Tom Brady did not have his A game, I know he threw 3 TD’s and over 300 yards, but he also tossed 2 interceptions and the Bucs could have capitalized if it wasn’t for the ineptness at QB. I hate the fact I’m coming down so hard on Josh Johnson, because the kid has talent and I think with the right team, grooming and coaching, he could be a player in the league, but if Freeman is the future then it’s time for him to start learning on the job and earning that #1 draft pick paycheck.

On a side note, it was nice to see the Brits all fired up for the NFL, it’s too bad they didn’t see a better contest. Phil Simms was one of the announcers for the game and he’s looking as old as Al Davis, it doesn’t seem that long ago he was winning Superbowls with LT and the Tuna. This game brought me back to earth and I’m humbled and a bit wiser, but also 5 – 2 vs the Bucs spread, but the Bucs can’t lose next week I promise, it’s a bye.
