Bucs Almost Blew Chance For #1 Overall Draft Pick

November 16th, 2009 at 5:23 pm

It was a nail bitter to the end, but the Bucs salvaged their chances and remained tied for the worst record in the NFL with the Lions, Rams and Browns. If the Bucs can just keep pace, they will have a very good chance at drafting Nebraska’s DT Ndamukong Suh. Suh is the being projected, on many boards, as the best DT in college and the top defensive prospect in the draft. Image if the Bucs had a pass rush, seriously how good would Tanard Jackson and Aqib Talib be? Other top prospects that will probably go with the top picks include: Oklahoma’s DT Gerald McCoy (some have higher than Suh) and Tennessee S Eric Berry.

Ndamukong Suh sacks Cullen Harper in the second half.

The Bucs will also have a their 2nd round pick plus the Bears’ 2nd round pick (thank you Gaines Adams). If the Bucs could move up and get hometown Gator Brandon Spikes or USC’s Taylor Mays that would be a major upgrade on defense instantly. A pass rush, plus a good linebacker or a strong safety that can cover and hit, is it too much to ask?

Somethings that need to happen, so the Bucs don’t kill the dream:

Connor Barth needs to settle down and quit kicking 50 yard plus fields. We were all impressed bro, but you need to look at the big picture and the future. What if the Bucs got it to within a 60 yarder for Barth? There’s a good chance he may have made it and that would have taken the Bucs out of contention for the #1.

Freeman I apologize and I was wrong about you, there I said it. Now please start playing like a rookie and throw some more INT’s.

Clifton Smith and Kellen Winslow are both deserving of a trip to the Honolulu at the end of the season, but slow down guys. You guys might break a few off if you keep up this pace and we can’t have that. Wait till we’re down by 17 and then get your freak on.

Watching the Bucs the last 2 weeks has been fun. I hope they can keep playing inspired ball, but not enough not ruin my draft party. The thought of a boy named Suh on the Bucs and Johnny Cash playing every time he made a big would be great. Even better would be locals getting drunk and in their confusion Suh turns into suey. Redneck inebriation you have to love it.

The race for Suh is on.

Maybe it was for the best that you guys lost to the Phins, but it was a good game. A lot to look forward to in the future with Stovall, Freeman, Cadillac, and crew.
