Packers vs Bucs: Josh Freeman Gets 1st Start

The Packers are coming to town and the timing couldn’t be worse, because rookie QB Josh Freeman is going to make his first NFL start this Sunday. If you combine rookie QB making first start with Packers losing at  home to Brett Favre and Vikings last Sunday that pretty much equals disaster for the Bucs. I don’t want to get off track, but don’t worry Packer fan Brett Favre won’t last the season, he’s old and it will catch up to him down the regular season stretch. But back to the current real issue, Josh Freeman is going to be behind center and leading the Bucs. The icing on the cake is the Bucs are going to were the Creamsicle orange and white uniforms and they will probably play like those old days too.

Houston Texans v Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Freeman got his first taste of the NFL at the end of Patriots game and all we can hope it that one series was just him being a deer in the headlights, because it didn’t go smooth. I want to believe he can do it, but even if he had a great team around him I just don’t think he’s a franchise QB. The fact is he wasn’t even that a great college QB, but I thought the Bucs would cover the spread vs the Patriots too, so you never know. The Bucs have 2 weeks to prepare, so hopefully the game plan will be kept simple and includes a healthy dose of Winslow and Cadillac.

Note to Freeman: Don’t force anything if it’s not there just throw it away. The Bucs probably could have one a game or two if the QB’s had just protected the ball, so don’t try and do too much son. Plus, Bucco Bruce will be right beside Freeman and all the Bucs for that matter, so that should give the Bucs the intimidation factor.

I seriously think how well Freeman does will determine the future for head coach Raheem Morris. The Bucs traded up in the first round to select quarterback Freeman. The Bucs sent its first and sixth-round picks to Cleveland to move up two spots ahead of the Denver Broncos in the picking order.  “The guy coming in is the franchise guy, the long-term answer,” Raheem Morris said. The Bucs are win-less, some players are acting up, there’s been rumors that the Bucs might be sold, so Morris better hope his boy steps up and makes a good showing for the rest of the season.

More on the game, the match up, the bet and the fantasy in my next post. I’m hoping to bounce back against the spread this week, so we’ll see what happens.
